Make a tender, flavorful turkey breast with minimal effort using your slow cooker. This hands-off recipe delivers moist meat perfect for weeknight dinners or freeing up your oven during holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 4 pound) bone-in or boneless turkey breast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Pat the turkey breast completely dry using paper towels. This step helps the skin crisp slightly, even in the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create the herb rub.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the surface of the turkey breast.
  4. Sprinkle the herb rub evenly over the entire turkey breast, massaging it into the meat.
  5. Pour the chicken broth and water into the bottom of your slow cooker.
  6. Place the seasoned turkey breast directly into the slow cooker, skin-side up if possible.
  7. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 to 7 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours. Do not lift the lid during the first 4 hours of cooking.
  8. The turkey is done when an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  9. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with foil, for 15 minutes before slicing.
  10. Use the drippings in the slow cooker to make a simple gravy if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can place a halved onion and two celery stalks in the liquid at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • If you are using a very large slow cooker, you may need to increase the liquid slightly to prevent scorching.
  • This recipe works well for boneless turkey breast crock pot cooking; reduce the cooking time by about 30 minutes.
