Make this easy, no-bake Pistachio Puppy Chow, also known as Pistachio Muddy Buddies. This recipe uses white chocolate and pistachio pudding mix for a crunchy, sweet, and festive snack mix perfect for parties or edible gifts.

  • 11 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter for nut-free coating)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) box instant pistachio pudding mix
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pistachios (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Measure the Rice Chex cereal into a very large bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted. This usually takes 60 to 90 seconds total.
  3. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted white chocolate mixture until combined.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently fold the cereal until it is evenly coated with the chocolate mixture. Work carefully to avoid crushing the cereal pieces.
  5. Sprinkle the entire box of instant pistachio pudding mix over the coated cereal. Gently toss the cereal until the pudding mix coats all the pieces.
  6. Place the powdered sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add the coated cereal mixture to the bag. Seal the bag, leaving some air inside.
  7. Shake the bag vigorously until all the cereal pieces are thoroughly coated with powdered sugar.
  8. Spread the coated cereal mixture onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set. If you are using chopped pistachios, sprinkle them over the top while the coating is still slightly sticky.
  9. Allow the puppy chow to cool completely, about 20 minutes, before breaking apart any large clumps.
  10. Store this easy no-bake snack in an airtight container at room temperature.
