Ingredients
Scale
1 (16 ounce) package frozen cheese ravioli
1 pound ground beef
1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
1 large egg
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the marinara sauce into the cooked ground beef in the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then remove from heat.
In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
Spread half of the meat sauce mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Arrange the frozen ravioli in a single layer over the sauce layer. Do not thaw the ravioli first.
Spread the entire ricotta mixture evenly over the layer of ravioli.
Spoon the remaining meat sauce mixture over the ricotta layer.
Top the casserole evenly with the mozzarella cheese and then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese is melted and lightly golden brown.
Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before you cut and serve this quick comfort food.
Notes
You can substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for the ground beef in this simple pasta casserole.
For a make ahead pasta option, assemble the entire casserole, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add 10 minutes to the covered baking time if baking straight from the refrigerator.
If you want a deconstructed lasagna flavor without using ravioli, substitute 12 oven-ready lasagna noodles broken into pieces instead of the frozen ravioli.
