Make this fusion dish combining classic shrimp scampi with the savory, buttery flavors of Oahu-style garlic shrimp. This recipe delivers quick, tropical flavor for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Cooked linguine or rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp completely dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Pour in the white wine or broth, lemon juice, and soy sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in the red pepper flakes. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss to coat everything in the sauce. Cook for 30 seconds to reheat the shrimp.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh parsley. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve immediately over hot linguine or rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For the best texture, do not overcook the shrimp; they should only cook for about 3-4 minutes total.
  • If you prefer a richer sauce, substitute 1 tablespoon of heavy cream for 1 tablespoon of the wine/broth.
  • Serve this **Garlic Butter Shrimp Oahu Style** with a side of fresh pineapple slices or a simple green salad.
