Create elegant, sweet and savory bites using creamy goat cheese wrapped in flaky puff pastry, finished with a honey drizzle. This simple appetizer is perfect for wine nights or holiday entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 ounces soft goat cheese, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pecans (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour your work surface. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into 12 equal squares.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of each pastry square lightly with the egg wash.
  4. Place about one teaspoon of chilled goat cheese in the center of six of the pastry squares.
  5. Fold the remaining six squares over the cheese squares diagonally to form triangles, pressing the edges firmly to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork to secure the seal.
  6. Place the sealed triangles onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops of the triangles lightly with the remaining egg wash.
  7. Use a sharp knife to cut two small slits in the top of each pastry triangle to allow steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  9. Remove the bites from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes.
  10. Transfer the warm bites to a serving platter. Drizzle generously with honey and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves and chopped pecans, if using.
  11. Serve these crowd pleasing snacks warm.

Notes

  • For an extra savory kick, use hot honey instead of regular honey.
  • If you prefer a different texture, substitute pecans with chopped walnuts or slivered almonds.
  • You can prepare the pastry shapes ahead of time and keep them refrigerated for up to 4 hours before brushing with egg wash and baking.
