Transform simple cheese cubes into a gourmet party favorite using this easy make-ahead recipe. The cheese soaks in olive oil infused with fresh garlic and herbs for a rich, savory flavor perfect for holiday entertaining or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 (8 ounce) package sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 (8 ounce) package Monterey Jack cheese, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 cup olive oil, good quality
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and Monterey Jack cheese into uniform 1/2 inch cubes. Place all cheese cubes gently into a medium, non-reactive container or a wide-mouth jar.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, black pepper, and salt. Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed in the oil.
  3. Pour the seasoned olive oil mixture over the cheese cubes. Gently stir or shake the container to coat all the cheese pieces completely with the marinade.
  4. Cover the container tightly. Refrigerate the marinated cheese appetizer for at least 24 hours, or up to 3 days, to allow the flavors to fully infuse.
  5. When ready to serve, let the cheese sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes before serving. Serve directly from the container or arrange the cheese and some of the marinade oil on a small platter.
  6. Provide crackers, sliced baguette, or pita chips alongside the cheese for serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute the cheese blend with all mozzarella balls or cubes for a different texture.
  • For an extra layer of flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the marinade for a subtle heat.
  • This appetizer tastes best after marinating for 48 hours.
