Ingredients
Scale
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish (or finely chopped dill pickles)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, lemon juice, white vinegar, and Dijon mustard.
Stir the ingredients together until they are fully mixed and the sauce is smooth.
Fold in the fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper.
Taste the sauce and adjust lemon juice or relish if you prefer more tang or sweetness.
Cover the bowl and chill the tartar sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
For a restaurant style sauce, add 1 teaspoon of finely chopped capers to the mixture.
If you prefer a sweeter sauce, use sweet pickle relish. For a tangier flavor, use dill pickle relish.
You can prepare this sauce up to three days ahead of time and store it covered in the refrigerator.
