Make this simple, sweet, and tart homemade cranberry sauce from fresh cranberries. It is ready in 15 minutes and is the perfect side dish for your holiday table, skipping the canned version.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. This creates your syrup base.
  2. Add the fresh cranberries and ground cinnamon to the syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10 to 12 minutes. Stir occasionally. The cranberries will begin to pop.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the fresh orange zest.
  5. Allow the sauce to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
  6. Transfer the sauce to a serving dish. You can serve it warm or chilled.

Notes

  • You can make this sweet and tart cranberry recipe up to one week ahead of time. Store it covered in the refrigerator.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the water with orange juice.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, pulse the cooled sauce a few times with an immersion blender, but leave some whole berries for texture.
