Ingredients
Scale
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg, lightly beaten
Vegetable oil, for frying
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust for heat preference)
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon rice vinegar
Instructions
Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp completely dry using paper towels. This step helps achieve maximum crispiness.
Set up the dredging station: In one shallow dish, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. In a second shallow dish, place the beaten egg.
Dredge the shrimp: Dip each shrimp first into the flour mixture, shaking off excess, then into the egg, and finally back into the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat fully. Place coated shrimp on a plate.
Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or Dutch oven to a depth of about 1 to 1.5 inches. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.
Fry the shrimp: Working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, carefully place the shrimp into the hot oil. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain the shrimp: Remove the cooked shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain excess oil.
Make the Bang Bang Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and rice vinegar until completely smooth and combined.
Toss and serve: Place the warm, crispy shrimp in a large bowl. Pour the prepared Bang Bang Sauce over the shrimp and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated. Serve immediately for the best texture.
Notes
For an Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp variation, toss the coated shrimp lightly with cooking spray instead of frying. Air fry at 390°F (199°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp. Toss with sauce after air frying.
If you prefer a milder sauce, reduce the sriracha to 1 tablespoon.
Serve this flavorful shrimp over rice or in tacos with shredded cabbage for a complete meal.
