Make these highly popular Crack Green Beans. This recipe uses bacon and a sweet and savory glaze to transform simple green beans into an irresistible side dish perfect for weeknights or Thanksgiving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside on a paper towel-lined plate. Leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the bacon grease. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes until the beans are crisp-tender.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, water, and garlic powder until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the green beans in the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the beans evenly.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon pieces.
  7. Serve immediately as your best green bean side dish.

Notes

  • For an extra savory flavor, substitute 1 tablespoon of the water with Worcestershire sauce.
  • If you prefer a less sweet glaze, reduce the brown sugar to 1/3 cup.
  • You can roast the green beans separately before tossing them in the glaze for a crispier texture.
