Make perfectly crunchy, sweet, and spiced pecans using simple pantry staples. This oven-roasted recipe is fast to prepare and ideal for snacking, topping salads, or creating simple holiday nut gifts.

  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, lightly whisk the egg white until it is slightly frothy.
  3. Add the pecan halves to the egg white and toss them until the nuts are evenly coated.
  4. In a separate small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix these dry ingredients well.
  5. Pour the sugar and spice mixture over the coated pecans. Toss everything together until the pecans are completely covered with the sugar coating.
  6. Spread the coated pecans in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not let them overlap.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring the pecans every 10 minutes to prevent burning and promote even crisping.
  8. Remove the pecans from the oven when they look golden brown and the coating appears dry.
  9. Let the pecans cool completely on the baking sheet. They will become very crunchy as they cool.
  10. Once cool, break apart any clusters and store the crunchy candied nuts in an airtight container.

  • For a slightly different flavor profile, substitute 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg with the cinnamon for sweet and spicy pecans.
