Ingredients
Scale
1 box (about 18.3 oz) dry brownie mix (ensure it is heat-treated before use)
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces Cool Whip (or substitute with an equal amount of homemade whipped topping)
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips, plus extra for topping
Sprinkles, for topping (optional)
Instructions
Heat treat the dry brownie mix to make it safe to eat. Spread the mix on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Alternatively, microwave the mix in 20-second intervals, stirring well between each interval, until safe. Let the mix cool completely.
In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until it is completely smooth and creamy.
Add the Cool Whip to the cream cheese mixture. Beat on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
Gradually add the cooled, heat-treated dry brownie mix and the milk to the bowl. Mix on low speed until the mixture is smooth and resembles thick brownie batter.
Gently fold in the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips using a spatula.
Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. Top with extra chocolate chips and sprinkles, if desired.
Serve your decadent chocolate treat immediately with your favorite dippers.
Notes
For the safest edible brownie batter, you must heat treat the dry mix. This step kills any potential bacteria.
This dip pairs well with pretzels, graham crackers, fresh strawberries, apple slices, or vanilla wafers.
If you prefer a homemade version without boxed mix, substitute the dry mix and milk with 1 cup of all-purpose flour (heat-treated), 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup milk.
