Ingredients
Scale
1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm tofu
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Press the tofu: Wrap the block of tofu in several layers of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Place it on a plate and set something heavy on top (like a cast iron skillet or a few cans). Let it press for at least 15 minutes to remove excess water.
Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
In a medium bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with soy sauce and sesame oil until lightly coated.
Sprinkle the cornstarch, garlic powder, and salt over the tofu. Toss again until the tofu pieces are evenly dusted. This coating helps achieve the best crispy air fryer tofu texture.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Place the seasoned tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary to ensure crispiness.
Air fry for 10 to 14 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time, until the air fryer tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides.
Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately as a healthy tofu snack or add to your favorite bowls or salads.
Notes
Pressing the tofu is the most important step for achieving a truly crispy result. Do not skip this step.
For extra flavor, toss the finished crispy tofu bites in a simple sauce like teriyaki or honey garlic after air frying.
If you want oil-free air fryer tofu, you can omit the sesame oil, but the texture may be slightly less rich.
