Make perfectly crispy sweet potato wedges in your air fryer with this straightforward recipe. Get a fluffy interior and a crunchy exterior every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, scrubbed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut the sweet potatoes into uniform wedges, about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Soak the wedges in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This step helps achieve crispiness.
  3. Drain the wedges completely and pat them very dry with paper towels. Moisture causes sogginess.
  4. In a medium bowl, toss the dry wedges with olive oil until lightly coated.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mix over the oiled wedges and toss to coat evenly.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for 5 minutes.
  7. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  8. Place the seasoned wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary for best results.
  9. Air fry for 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket vigorously every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and browning.
  10. Check for doneness; the wedges should be tender inside and golden brown and crisp outside.
  11. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately as a healthy sweet potato snack idea or side dish.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, toss the wedges with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch along with the oil and spices before air frying.
  • If you prefer a sweeter flavor, substitute 1/2 teaspoon of the salt with 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar in the seasoning mix.
  • To prevent sticking, always ensure you use a light coating of oil and do not skip the preheating step.
