Make perfectly crispy, healthy sweet potato fries in your air fryer with this simple recipe. Get the right temperature and technique for a non-soggy result.

  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Scrub the sweet potatoes well. Do not peel them; the skin helps with texture.
  2. Cut the sweet potatoes into uniform fry shapes, about 1/4 inch thick. Uniform size helps them cook evenly.
  3. Place the cut sweet potatoes in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch, which is key for crispiness.
  4. Drain the potatoes completely and pat them very dry using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Moisture prevents crisping.
  5. In the bowl, toss the dry fries with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until lightly coated.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
  7. Place the seasoned fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary to achieve the best air circulation.
  8. Air fry for 12 minutes.
  9. Open the basket and shake the fries well to flip them.
  10. Continue to air fry for another 5 to 8 minutes, or until the fries are golden brown and crispy on the edges. Check frequently after the 15-minute mark.
  11. Remove immediately and serve your best air fryer fries hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the fries with cooking spray just before the final 5 minutes of cooking.
  • If you prefer a slightly sweet flavor, substitute 1/2 teaspoon of the salt with 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar mixed with the spices.
  • If your fries stick, you may need to lightly oil the basket before adding the first batch, or ensure you are not overloading the basket.
